Charged With a DWI in Oklahoma?

A DWI (Driving While Impaired) is a lower-level alcohol offense in Oklahoma, but can still impact your record, job, insurance, and future. A DWI doesn't mean you're a bad person, and doesn't mean automatic conviction. Many DWI cases can be challenged, reduced, or even dismissed with the right legal defense. Contact an experienced DWI attorney today to understand your options and protect your future.

What Is a DWI in Oklahoma?

A DWI is a misdemeanor drinking and driving offense where your blood alcohol content (BAC) registers at either .06 or .07. If your BAC is .08 or higher, the charge becomes Driving Under the Influence (DUI), which carries stiffer legal penalties than a DWI. See our page on DUI.

Police may issue a DWI if they believe alcohol impaired your ability to drive, even if your BAC is under .08. A DWI is serious, but is often defensible and negotiable, depending on factors like how the stop was handled and how the testing was administered.

Can a DWI Affect My Driver's License?

An arrest for DWI does not automatically trigger a license revocation, however there may be other conditions (like refusal to submit to a field sobriety test or if you are under 21) specific to your case that may trigger a revocation. See our page on Driver's Licenses for more information.

A DWI attorney can review your DPS paperwork, protect your driving privileges, and request a hearing if needed.
